Limit the dropdown options shown, depending on the value of an earlier field.
e.g.
In a Risk Assessment form, the "Working Procedures" should be limited by the "Hazard" - to show only working procedures relevant to that hazard.

Perhaps a good use case for Artificial Intelligence to make predictive suggestions?
e.g. 
Let's say I have "Item" and "Material" as two separate dropdowns.
And I regularly choose "Item = Floor" along with "Material = Parquet Laminate" 
In this case, when I choose "Item = Floor" - we can predict that a likely material will be "Parquet Laminate" so this should be bumped to the top of the material dropdown suggestions.
